REIC Forms Partnership with PAMA

It is the mandate of The Real Estate Institute of Canada (REIC), as a national organization, to reach out to all sectors of the real estate industry to offer credentialing programs for the mutual benefit of consumers, individuals and organizations.

“REIC seeks out opportunities to partner with like-minded organizations whose goal is to raise the bar of professionalism, ethical business practices, fiduciary duty awareness and skillsets for their members or staff”, says Gareth Jones, FRI CRES, the Executive Vice President of REIC.

The Professional Association of Managing Agents (PAMA), based in Vancouver, is one of these organizations. PAMA represents dozens of property management companies in British Columbia whose areas of practice and expertise are management of residential, strata and commercial properties.

Some of the strengths of both organizations are the membership benefits, networking opportunities, local events and industry recognition. As an accredited professional, you will belong to a local chapter, a national and an international organization having access to annual conferences, a multitude of on-line seminars and webinars along with other continuing education promoting best practices.

Roger Williams is the Executive Director of PAMA and tells us, “PAMA has been focused on providing education to industry professionals since 1970. Its mandate is to promote, educate and disseminate information concerning residential rental and strata management. In addition to the regular continuing education program delivered throughout the year, PAMA offers a three-part Rental Building Certificate course focused on BC legislation and regulation. With the introduction of mandatory re-licensing education for all real estate licensees in 2007, working in conjunction with the University of BC, PAMA is the sole provider of re-licensing credit courses for rental and strata licensees in British Columbia.

PAMA is a major proponent of professional development and the acquisition of industry designations and is very excited to be playing a part in promoting and delivering these internationally respected designations here in BC. We believe partnering with REIC/IREM will enable us to better promote and encourage the pursuit of excellence in our industry.”

Jones further states, “Roger and I have met and have had several in depth conversations to arrive at what we believe to be an outstanding opportunity to work together in offering these internationally recognized programs to the members and non-members of PAMA. We both agree that education should be made available to anyone in the profession who is seeking a direction and is passionate about property management as their career choice.”

REIC has had a long-standing partnership with the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). IREM designations include the CERTIFIED PROPERTY MANAGER® (CPM®)ACCREDITED RESIDENTIAL MANAGER® (ARM®) along with ACCREDITED COMMERCIAL MANAGER (ACoM). REIC is the exclusive provider of education programs leading to property management designations on behalf of IREM in Canada.

Designations can be applied for through REIC and should be applied for in advance of course registration to obtain candidate discounts.
